Bull Canyon Run

Yesterday I once again attempted to break the 1 hour 10k barrier on the mighty Bull Canyon Run. It's an out and back with a rather nasty hill just before the turn around point; my strategy this year (my 4th attempt) was to run a reasonable pace to begin, power walk up the hill, then run like hell downhill to the finish line. Alas, I didn't even come close, finishing with a time of 1:06 and some seconds. I was actually closer last year (1:01:something) and I'm wondering if I should just tough it out and run up the hill. It was still a fun day; Hubby and I know lots of people both organizing and running this race and I met a few new runners during the day. So next year I will try yet again...

And I'm returning to work next Tuesday. I'm hoping my newbie trainee catches on quick because I'm going to try and have her trained and ready to go in 2 weeks, 3 weeks tops. This won't be a fun gig because I can't make my own hours this time around and I'll once again be a slave to the deadmill.

Hi Tanya,

Thank you so much for leaving a comment on my blog. I appreciate any piece of encouragement I can get! :) And thanks for cheering me in! The power of a crowd is amazing.

I'm just in the beginning of my marathon training. So I am very curious how my performance will change over the course of training.

Please feel free to check in any time! I appreciate you taking the time to leave a comment!

That last hill on Bull Canyon was narly wasn't it?! I think power walking the hill is a good idea. You know so many runners find they do better over all when they use some walk breaks.

Oh well, there is always next year to try it again! :) I'll see you there! :)

Happy Running!

It's a great idea to have a yearly race where you can see how your improvement is coming along and what needs improvement. Yup, maybe slowly running up those hills might be better than power walking...maybe next year strive to do a month of hill training before Bull Canyon? Maybe the stress of working has affected your training too?
